Peace & Blessings Beloved,
I pray all is well with you and yours, and that your week has been fruitful & blessed thus far.
1 John 4:16
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
In this chapter John is sharing with us the saving work of Christ at the cross, and how that directly relates to us who call ourselves believers. God is the perfect example of love, as demonstrated by the sacrificing of His son for us, who are absolutely undeserving. It’s also important for us to recognize that while love is certainly an attribute of God’s character, it does not total the sum of His character, for He is many things (we won’t get into those other attributes, for the sake of staying on topic).
As we experience another day, it is my prayer that we‘ve been intentional about loving God with every part of our being, understanding that doing so will keep us in His favor, & greatly improve our lives.
In the above passage, we see that we are required to abide in love. We can’t make claims of the Holy Spirit residing within us if we don’t exercise love.
Plainly put, we are the visible representatives for an invisible God. And in order to be effective in that role, we must understand the nature of God, what He wants/expects from us, & how best to live that out in our everyday lives. If we are to draw people to Jesus so they can invite Him into their life, they must first see Him in us.
In other words, the individual who is truly a Christian, who recognizes the sacrifice that Jesus made for us on the cross, will follow in His footsteps & obey God as He did. If we refer to last week’s bible study, we’ll remember Jesus giving us the first of the two great commandments, which directly align to the 10 commandments God gave Moses. The second one deals with the love we should have for others. So we see very clearly that our commandments from God all boil down to love: the love we should have for Him, & the love we should have for others.
I pray this resonates with you, & that you can rest in God’s love daily, & be an example to others, drawing them to a relationship with Him.
May the joy of the Lord continue to be your strength.
Love you much, be abundantly blessed!
